treats for the day

I'm 29!

I managed to successfully complete the majority of the things on my list, while others will have to roll forward to a new list, which I'll post soon. :) And that's okay, because that's just how I roll these days.

Until then, here are some little treats from my birthday weekend:

I toasted my own coconut and made some delish cupcakes!

As you can probably imagine, they've all been devoured by now...

tasty

Yum!

And I was lucky enough to have a cute, fun birthday party with my favorite people. Here was my favorite part of the night:

You know you have good friends when the party lasts til 3am, even on a night when we lose an hour.

And now, I'm off to have a birthday lunch with my hubby and do some shopping! :)

a little yogurt makes it better

This past 3-day weekend was a long one. Long in both the good and bad sense of the word. Why? Because the stomach flu was an unwelcome guest and we all took turns passing it around. Yuck. I originally had really great things planned: a really great party that I didn't have to plan but could invite all my best friends to, and a concert that I've been anticipating since I first heard of the band...

Results of the fun weekend?
I left the party mid way since I was so nauseous I could no longer have a normal conversation. Its really bad when you have to interrupt someone you are just getting to know to tell them, "I'm sorry, but I just have to sit down".. and mosey on over to the corner of the room and sit by yourself. And to make matters worse, it was my husband's office party, and I felt like I was giving off the impression to his coworkers that I was either too bored or too insecure or too lame to be having fun. In reality I was just too sick, and I went home at 9:30. Le sigh.

I also missed the concert. No good story there, except I was just sad to be at home watching old SNL clips instead. Le double sigh.

Luckily, after we'd all had our turns being sick, we managed to get out of the house all together on Monday for some frozen yogurt at Skinnidip. Wow, I had heard about this place, and it even made my to-do list, but the experience far surpassed my expectations! It was creamy, delicious, tart and not too sweet, and the topping choices were great. I enjoyed the plain yogurt with fresh raspberries best.

Addison ended up liking mine better because I'd gotten brownie pieces in it. And, when every last bite had been devoured, he nearly cried because he wanted some more. Oh the joy of toddlers!

Here's to a fine new week, with better health, a fine new President and hope on the horizon!

On the first day of Christmas....

Wow, what a week!
We've had:
  • 10 inches of snow,
the fattest squirrel in the world
  • took 9 sled runs down the hill, (which satisfies list item #3!)
wheee!
  • watched the winter weather forecast for 7 days,
  • ate 6 cupcakes between the 3 of us today (guess who ate three all by herself),
  • made 5 quarts of soup,
  • enjoyed 4 holiday parties,
  • survived 3 snow days,

  • enjoyed a VERY rare evening staying up til 2am,
  • and now am mother to 1 toddler who turned 3 years old today!

# 11: Photobooth at the Ace Hotel

Accomplished! Aren't we nerds?

I was in heaven....

Why? Because I got permission from my dear, sweet husband to buy. these. shoes.

And I did. And I wore them, and my feet hurt. But dang, I looked good.

It was a great weekend, and ended way too soon. And, I even managed to accomplish one of the things on the list I made way back when... Can you guess which one? (I'll post the results of my mission: accomplished tonight!)

How was your weekend?

Humble Beginnings

self
For years now I have run alongside my dreams, watching their every move, and hoping someday when I turned 80 I would look back and find that I had actually jumped in and lived them somewhere along the way. Today I'm starting this blog.

What better way to start something than with a to-do list? I actually hate most lists, because they are usually filled with things that I don't want to do. This one, on the other hand, is a list of things I want to do before my next birthday, called "28 things to do before I turn 29." But, to be fair, I had better pro-rate my list since a good part of my birthday year is already over.... 'cause I'm a little obsessively perfectionistic like that. But I'll spare you the math equation.

"15 things to do in the 55% of the year left before I turn 29"
  1. Blog at least once a week
  2. Eat yogurt at one of the new homemade yogurt places in town
  3. Go sledding with my 2 year-old
  4. Enlarge and frame one of my own photographs
  5. Read three books on my to-read list
  6. Create at least one original artwork
  7. Refinish or paint one piece of salvaged furniture
  8. Go to this flea market
  9. Buy a perfume I like
  10. Plan a surprise for my husband
  11. Do this photobooth
  12. Go to an Omnimax movie
  13. Talk to some of my favorite bloggers about their blogging experience
  14. Work out at least once a week
  15. Carry my camera with me at all times
There. I did it.
